Color Word Sentence Scramble

Wow, a handful of my first graders needed reminded of what a sentence is. I created this activity as a way for them to use many of the back to school skills we're learning at a writing center.

They cut out the word tiles (using our back to school sight words AND color words) and glue the sentence in order in the space provided. Then, they rewrite the sentence (modeling capitalization, spacing, punctuation, and of course sight words). They must reread and comprehend the sentence in order to draw a picture that matches.

I have created a set of 8 pages using the basic color words. Also included is the direction poster:

How Quickly I Forget..

.. what the beginning of the year is like! 3 days in and its all coming back to me now! lol! I made this poster (inspired by Pinterest of course) for my carpet.

I plan on making eye contact and pointing to the expected behavior, rather than sounding like a record.. "sit criss cross, applesauce", "stop braiding her hair", "keep your shoes on", "I can't hear you when you all shout at once" and my personal favorite "take your fingers out of your ears we are not having a fire drill today!"

You can download your own copy {free} HERE :)

WHEW! I know this week *has* to be better right? :)

Back to School Jitters!

It's crunch time! Tomorrow is my official last day of summer vacation. Guess what wild and crazy thing I'm doing? LAMINATING MY NAME TAGS! lol! I live on the edge. So many last minute things to do.. I need about 2 more weeks, don't we all?

I'm joining the fun at "A Turn to Learn"'s Back to School Jitters Linky Party:

Back to School Jitters Linky Party

Here's my list of jitters!

I've been working hard on my back to school lessons and added one of them to my TPT store. Have you read the book Don't Squeal Unless It's A Big Deal?

It's my favorite book for teaching about tattling.. lots of examples of when to tell the teacher and when not to tell the teacher. I've created both a book sort and a classroom sort for students to practice evaluating situations where they need to decide whether to "squeal" or not. You can check it out HERE :)

Enjoy what is left of your summer!! :)

Currently!

Good morning! Anyone else in a panic that summer is almost over and you didn't do all you'd hope? I feel like every time I cross 1 thing off my "to do" list, I add 2 more! That doesn't seem fair does it? lol!

I'm participating in my first "linky party" with Farley at Oh Boy, Fourth Grade!

How fun!!

I wanted to share a TPT favorite of mine - Kathy's "color by the code". I used these with my firsties last year and they LOVED them. This is her new back to school set I picked up:

And I wanted to share my first TPT product - a set of direction words wall cards. I'm excited to add this to my "helper" wall for promoting independence AND following directions. Check them out HERE.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
